"THE HUNGER ERA showcases a rapper on a journey of self-discovery, both musically and personally, as he experiments with expertly produced instrumentals that highlight his lyrical strengths."

As I sit here reflecting, I’m genuinely captivated by the talent of D2x. Listening to his highly anticipated EP, THE HUNGER ERA, which he’s been promoting heavily on social media, feels like witnessing something special. I’ve rarely seen an artist so deeply connected to their fans or so present online as D2x. We follow each other on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), and I’ve been keeping up with his updates on this fresh new project by the Chicago native. What stands out in THE HUNGER ERA is the undeniable passion in every track. Songs like the lead single, “FIRE”—accompanied by stunning visuals—highlight D2x’s lyrical ability and deep enthusiasm for songwriting. The rapping brings a wave of nostalgia, reminiscent of Jay-Z’s The Blueprint or Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life, yet with a reimagined, modern edge. D2x channels a contemporary Hov vibe but with his own unique flair and voice, offering something genuinely fresh that today’s rap scene hasn’t quite seen. Hov's influences are evident, yet it’s D2x originality that makes him one of the most exciting new artists to watch.

THE HUNGER ERA showcases a rapper on a journey of self-discovery, both musically and personally, as he experiments with expertly produced instrumentals that highlight his lyrical strengths. Through these well-curated tracks, D2x invites us into a world filled with chaos, imagination, and artistry. It’s refreshing to hear a rapper sharing his true stories without worrying about public perception; his knack for writing songs that provoke thought highlights his skill as a songwriter and his commitment to producing music with depth and impact. "THE THEME SONG" opens with a sample from an animated comic show—likely Marvel—with the line, “Faster than a speeding bullet…” and closes with a mention of Superman, subtly portraying D2x as a hero in his own story. From there, the track shifts into powerful bars over a hard-hitting beat, creating an immersive experience that pulls listeners in from the start.

The features on THE HUNGER ERA are carefully chosen and well-suited, striking the perfect balance to maintain the project’s vibe. Chris Patrick's verse on "WOW!" is both energetic and memorable, emphasizing simplicity and originality. Each artist brings their best without overshadowing the other. D2x's closing verse feels like a victory lap—deep, lyrically sharp, and impossible to overlook. The occasional comic samples woven throughout the EP add a cinematic touch, enhancing the project’s seamless, nuanced feel and showcasing D2x’s commitment to quality. Ausar’s feature on "MARVEL!" is iconic, channeling a persona reminiscent of Ab-Soul, while D2x exhibits newfound wit and lyrical prowess with lines like "I've been going Ludacris, the growing pains I got it now." The instrumental plays a key role, elevating each rapper's performance. This track stands out as one of THE HUNGER ERA’S highlights, solidifying D2x's versatility and unique style.

Most of these songs focus more on the past than the present, which at times feels repetitive, creating a tension between growth and a downward spiral (reflecting an emotional and psychological conflict where D2x is pulled between progress and regression). The EP dives into themes of grief, resilience, and overcoming challenges, effectively showcasing D2x's recurring motifs while maintaining a cohesive flow. Introspective moments feel raw and honest, though occasionally a bit prolonged, yet they leave a lasting impression. D2x’s sincerity and authenticity shine through, setting him apart from others. This is a project designed to shift perspectives and make listeners appreciate the effort behind its creation. Though only an EP, its high production quality and polished execution make it feel like a full-length album, with seven tracks spanning 28 minutes.

D2x presents a groundbreaking EP that is both striking and unwavering. While it may not yet receive the recognition it deserves, it’s certain to resonate with hip-hoppers worldwide who value lyricism and the art of rap.
